with the Kindling of the New Fire, the Vigil of lessons that tell the story of redemption, and the first Easter celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Tenebrae Service

Tenebrae will be held tonight (Apr. 12) at 7:00.  This service is distinctive for its gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are read and chanted by the Emmanuel Mens’ Choir.  Tenebrae is a very emotional and moving service; one not to be missed.

Lenten Program

Our first foray into Ancient Christian Prayer this past Wednesday was a rousing success! Don’t miss next Wednesday when Deacon Janice will lead the group in the ancient practice of Lectio Divina. Potluck supper starts at 6:00pm (no desserts, please) with Stations of the Cross and our workshops following!

Shrove Tuesday is February 28

The last day before the beginning of Lent is so called because of the Christian practice of making one’s confession, and receiving absolution, being “shriven,” at the outset of Lent. Whatever your Lenten practice is, don’t miss our Pancake Supper on Tuesday, 28 February, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Come join our crack team of EYC Helpers and Bacon Chefs as we send off Epiphanytide! Proceeds go to help our EYC fund!

Feb. 5 is Scout Sunday!

On Sunday 5 February, let’s welcome our Scouts at the 10:15am service! This year, we’ll be inducting several scouts into the the Scouts Pray program, a religious education class we are offering in partnership with several of the leaders in the Cub Scout Pack. Don’t miss it!

Merry Christmas!

A Very Merry Christmas to all! With love and blessings from Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Lessons & Carols 2016

lessons-carols-open-graphLessons and Carols 2016

The Choir of Emmanuel has been hard at work for weeks preparing this year’s Lessons and Carols program for Sunday, December 18 at 10:15 a.m.  Once again, we will be joined by a String Quartet drawn from players associated with the Orlando and Brevard Orchestras.  Repertory will include a setting of the Kyrie composed in Paris in 1766 by the ten year old Mozart, two works in that same classical style by composers from the early American Moravian tradition, and other hymns and choral pieces reflecting the readings and the season.  We will once again use the sequence of nine Lessons developed at Kings College, Cambridge.
This special event is made possible not only by your musicians, but also by gifts made in response to appeals from the Music Guild.  Guest musicians are not provided for in the regular operating budget of the parish.  The Music Guild’s 2016 Advent Appeal opened on Advent I.  It is still in progress.  Envelopes are to be found in the Narthex and at the Garden Entrance.  Please make your check payable to Emmanuel Church, mark it Music Guild, put it in an envelope and drop it in the alms basin with your regular offering.  You may also mail it to the office, or drop it off during the week.
Please plan to be present for the service, which is among the year’s highlights.
