Daughters of the King:
Women dedicated to prayer, study, and service. Read below
for more information on this fine ministry.
What is the Order of the Daughters of the King?
Founded in 1885, the Order is open to women and girls who
are communicants in the Episcopal Church. The mission of
the Order is the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through
Prayer, Service and Evangelism. The emblem of the order
is a silver Greek fleury cross worn at all times either
as a pin over the heart or on a chain. Currently, there
are over 25,000 Daughters in the U.S.
What does becoming a Daughter of the King mean?
Members undertake the Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule
of Prayer and the Rule of Service. Actually, a Daughter
recommits herself to the promises made at Baptism and Confirmation
and pledges a life-long program of prayer and service dedicated
to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom with the added privilege
of rendering at all times aid to the clergy as deemed necessary
for the smooth running of the parish. A chapter usually
meets once a month for prayer, study and fellowship and
maintains a confidential prayer list. The bonds that are
established over the years amongst Daughters are priceless.
The Emmanuel chapter of Daughters was established in 1976.
At that time, few women in the parish worked outside the
home and so it was logical to meet in the morning. Now,
we have two Daughters of the King, Ginger Grimm and Betsy
Mark whose jobs or home commitments preclude them attending
daytime meetings and we are confident that there are other
women in the parish who would be interested in becoming
Daughters of the King if an evening meeting were available.
Barbara Dow and Betty Pfeiffer are eager to talk with any
woman who feels called to this important ministry.

Fresh Start: Provide
meals to the men of the Christian Service Center's Fresh
Start program. Here is an excerpt from the October Emmanuel
Life about Fresh Start:
"One of the most meaningful ministries at Emmanuel
is serving dinner to approximately 20 men at Christian Service
Center. Our church has committed to the 7th of each month.
Because we have four teams, that means each team only has
to prepare dinner and bring items for lunch the following
day once every four months.
These men are a step from being homeless. They appreciate
so much our meals and our fellowship as we eat together."
